Getting to know my new laptop.

I am finally getting to know my new laptop, I will call it Walter. Today is Monday and I am in post weekend distress, my mind needs to do so much but I am having very difficult time concentrating. On anything… Facebook, really is the only site that I want to keep checking instead of doing proper research. Nothing is happening on Facebook, my friends don’t really update their accounts and if they do its usually crap. Like who really needs to know what is up with their relatives? or their sleep patterns? or bad pictures??? Who needs bad pictures? Grrr… That’s all I have to say. I need to be working on my 11 papers, that I need to write in the next 13 days and all I can think of is how much time I waste on Facebook!!!!

I mean why is it so addictive, it’s not even interesting!!!!  I get updates that I do not care about. People don’t even text over the phone anymore… why text if there is a Facebook app. Come on people lets do something new!!!

Walter and I have just discovered that F3 turns off wireless. Horray! I will make sure to keep it off so I could do other work. For example, typing out a word document is much easier when I am not paying attention to the Internet tab light up every 3 seconds with “so-and-so typing a msg”.

No offence people.

L8R DAYS,

Inspiration: short story about a laptop.

Dear Dell.ca I would like to thank you for sending me an inspiration. I was so pleased to see the Purolator truck this morning, that I might have scared the Purolator man just a little bit… He knew what he was delivering and I knew that I was like a little kid on Christmas morning (all over again). The box looked so small but the potential inside (which I paid for) so enormous.

I haven’t had a laptop for over two years and truth to be told I cried when my oldie no longer worked. I have purchased my first laptop when I was in 11th grade. It felt like I have spent all of my hard earn dollars on it. We have been really good friends for many long years.

About five years ago my oldie has been left on my work table… The table was located by a window… That day the weather has shifted from a sunny +25C to a blowing wind-rain. The window was open…

By the time I got to my work desk I found my laptop sitting in a puddle of water. Luckily it was off at the time and no electrical disaster has occurred. once you see your laptop full of water you know this might be the end.

For us it wasn’t. I left the laptop to dry… and I mean left it to air dry for two weeks. Without ever trying to turn it on, or even plug it in. Two longest weeks with no lappy. One day I have finally got enough courage to check if it was alive. It was. Everything worked fine.  Until about a year later; strange things started to happen to it, its mind, and its soul.

For the last two years of its life I literally used it as a type-writer. Nothing worked: it gave up on the dvd/cd drive, on the floppy drive, on having any long term memory. I used it as a type-writer by plugging in a usb key, typing out stuff in word, and saving my info as I typed directly to the key… It was a long a tedious process, but I was used to my lappy’s keys that I could not feel more at ease with typing. (I did however had to transfer all my writing to my big computer and only then deal with editing, properly saving, and printing my documents.)

I loved that old laptop so much that I cried when I was giving it away to a recycling depot. We were best friends for so many years: we had so many fond memories.

Today I got my new best friend. (yes, i know its not a puppy but it will do for now) I was pleased to get it and start typing on it, as it turns out this post is coming from the new Inspiron.

I am glad to have a laptop again. I have mentioned to many people that my inspiration comes in the strangest of places and I need my computer to be able to follow me around. So when inspiration strikes… its here… waiting.

So far I am impressed with delivery, product, and the keyboard… I can actually type sitting on my sofa! ( I am concerned with this little dead? pixel on my screen, but I’ll check later if it is anything serious.)

I hope this Inspiron will become my inspiration. (hence the Inspirontion!!! :P)
